A great many WordPress users (yours truly included) spend a lot of time hunting down themes looking for that “perfect” theme to fit their new site. They scour through loads of free themes and theme clubs looking for that one that is just right. Once they’ve found something they like, then they spend a great deal of time and effort to customize it to their liking.
There is nothing inherently wrong with this approach, especially if you are on a tight budget. But have you considered what your time is worth?
Have you thought about how many hours you might spend on finding the right theme and then the additional time it takes to implement that theme? What would it cost you to hire someone to do it for you?
I try to think in terms of “working smart, not hard.” If a project will take a reasonable amount of time without pulling my focus from what pays the bills, then I’ll do it myself. However, if the in-going effort does not make sense to the bottom line, then I’ll hire it out.
How about you? Do you find yourself bogged down sometimes in efforts that seem to pull your focus from what you do best and what generates income?
