Thanks to the users

WP-Members has moved up the popularity list of WordPress plugins.  We seem to have peaked for now at #130.  With 14,594 plugins available and counting, that puts WP-Members into the top 1%.

That is thanks to the users of the plugin.  And I appreciate it.  When I started this project in 2006, I never thought of that possibility.

It hasn’t been easy.  This is a one man operation in my spare time.  While I like it that way, it is a lot of work to support a plugin that has been that popular.  And I’ll continue to do my best to be responsive into the future.  For the most part, I’ve got a user base that understands this and we are mutually appreciative of each other.  That’s what the open source movement is all about and I think that is pretty cool.

The most recent public release of the plugin was 2.5.1 and that broke the previous 1, 2, and 3 day download records for me.  The most exciting was 514 downloads in a single day.  That signals to me that there is a significantly active user base out there (which forces me to be careful with releases so that we don’t break something that was working before).  It tells me that users are keeping up with updates, which is important because there was a security patch in this past release.

2.5.2 will be released this week and will contain some additional fixes and will correct a couple of issues that found their way into 2.5.1.  So be watching for that release.

In the meantime, it is humbling to have such a popular plugin.  It wouldn’t be the case without all of the users, so I thank you for that!
