WP-Members™ Translations

WP-Members™ has been translated into a number of languages.  This page will always have the most recent versions of any translation files that I have as well as the most recent POT.  The most recent version number will be indicated.  While there have been some changes along the way since 2.4, translation files should be fairly compatible with minimal changes.

If you need to update a file, I would suggest that you use Poedit.

If you are unfamiliar with localization, review this information at the Codex.

If you have created translations for WP-Members™ that you would like to share with the community, feel free to contact me via the contact page and I would be happy to add them here.

Note: if you are loading a translation on a site that has already had WP-Members™ installed, you’ll need to force the translated field names into the database.  That process is described in this post.

  2. Ivan Bakran says:

    Very good plug in indeed!
But, I also have problems with the registration form after translating. Unfortunately the link in your reply to David is not valid, so I haven’t got a clue to how to fix this…

  3. christian says:

    hi,

there’s a spelling error in the german translation files: “standartmässig” is wrong. “standardmäßig” is the correct form – two “d”, one “ß”…

  4. christian says:

    *bing*
second one: “Ziege Kurzfassung” means “goat short version”.
Correct would be “Zeige Kurzfassung”, but according to the english “excerpt” it better should be “Zeige Auszüge”.

    Kurzfassung == short version
    short version != excerpt
excerpt == Auszug (singular), Auszüge (plural))

  9. Fatih says:

    Hi Chad,

I follow your instructions but i have no succes.
I had installed the plugin before i set the translation files in there.

i did this so as you had described:
” Below that, look in the list of Plugin Files for wp-members-install.php. Near the top of the very first function in this file, wpmem_do_install, look for $chk_force = false; Change this to $chk_force = true; Save the change by clicking “Update File”
Go to the WP Plugin panel and deactivate/reactivate the plugin.”

And i tried to delete the plugin trough the wpadmin area and try to reinstall. Also without succes…

Can you help me fint out whit this?

  10. Dorian Maria says:

Good news: upgrade for Italian language translation is not necessary.
The .po and .mo in posts above are still working in 2.6.2 version.
    Have fun.
    Dorian.

  11. cs says:

    hello … I still don’t get it … same problem like @Fatih

    1. my wordpress is localized
    2. i’ve installed the plugin, then do the translations, then change wp-members-install.php, then deactivate/reactivate
    3. i put the mo file both in wp-content/languages and /lang inside of the plugin folder

… and no success at all.

  12. cs says:

just to help you: when opening any of the .pot (found in the plugin or downloaded from this page) files with poedit to generate the .mo and .po I’m getting an error message:

/tmp/poeditTpnDNW/ref.pot:240: internationalized messages should not contain the `\r’ escape sequence

    • Chad says:

I’m not sure why you are getting that because I is not in the plugin for the message referenced. I am finishing up an updated release shortly that will include an updated POT anyway.

    • Richard says:

I had the same problem when I created a new SE lang file. If I remember correctly I resolved it by choosing Swedish as language in poedit.

  13. Batuhan says:

    Hello,

I am translating the plug-in to Turkish, I can share it with you! Just send me an e-mail.

    Thanks for the plug-in.

  14. Por Favor como traduzir para pt_BR?
Como fica o nome do arquivo?
    _______________________________________
    Please translate to as pt_BR?
    How is the file name?

  15. Richard says:

    Hi Chad,

I’ve made some minor linguistical changes to the Swedish language file. There was also an %s missing on an entry which is why username of logged on user wasn’t show in the widget.

However, I cannot find out why the following two emails aren’t sent to users:

“Thank you for registering for %s. Your registration has been received and is pending approval.”
“Your registration for %s has been approved”

There is an email sent to admin that a new user needs approval and also reset password emails are sent. But not the two above. If I remove the Swedish lang files it all works fine again though.

    Any ideas?

    • Chad says:

Richard – I can’t see anything that would cause that to work when not translated, but not work when it is. That is quite odd. I’ll look into it but I can’t say how much effort I can put in that direction as most of that section of the plugin is currently being rebuilt for 2.7 which focuses on providing an admin panel to customize the email messages that are sent out.

  16. Luca says:

    Hi all,
basing myself on Doriano’s work (with special thanks to him), I have updated the italian translation file of wp-members 2.6.4 and tested ‘em on WordPress 3.2.1 . I imported new strings provided by the new version of the plugin and fixed some errors in the placeholders %s. Now it works better, especially in the new version of the plugin. Hope it helps!

    bye bye

  17. Frank Verheyen says:

    Hi Chad,
Any more news about the error “internationalized messages should not contain the `\r’ escape sequence” when loading the wp-members.pot in poedit?
Thanks. (Love the plugin by the way)

    • Chad says:

Frank – that actually isn’t in the code with the \r; it seems to be getting put in there by wordpress.org’s .pot generation process. I’ll remove it manually from the .pot file. In the meantime, it only seems to be in one location and could be modified directly.

  18. Mikael Boldt says:

I’m trying to make a Danish translation of your POT-document -so far so good, but
when testing I can see that something is not included for instance:
CLEAR FORM and SUBMIT in the registration form is not listed.

I tried then to establish my own POT file but only 165 lines for translation showed up (there are 216 in the existing POT)

Second: In registration form you ask for “First Name” and “Last Name” how/where do I translate these?

  19. Sorin Sfirlogea says:

    Hi Chad,
I have translated WP-Members in Romanian. Let me know how may I send you the files along with my comments regarding some small errors related to translation.

    Regards.

  20. Frank says:

I have just finished German translation for version 2.7.0 and will upload the language files through Chads contact form as wished.

Beside that let me add some notes here, which have to do with WordPress localization at all.

This translation capability in WP-Members is a great feature to ensure that anybody can use this plugin in his native language. It is based on the gettext functionality (at least I think so) which currently been used across a wide range of open source projects. That means, the basis for translations are language files defined as *.po and *.mo format, which helps software to get translated on the fly.

Normally you would take a texteditor for translation or a specific editor like PoEdit. Using such an editor you can translate *.po files and generate the resulting *.mo files out of. All software products based on gettext are only able to deal with *.mo files at production level (live mode). That means you need to translate some phrases, generate a *.mo file and finally upload it. But after inspectation in real live you will encounter such things like to big label texts or small mistakes. And you will repeat this always including that file upload again and again…

To avoid this counterproductive and time wasting recurring process I am using a neat (free) WP Plugin, called “CodeStyling Localization”:

    http://www.code-styling.de/english/development/wordpress-plugin-codestyling-localization-en

It is easy to install on every WP blog like a normal Plugin and very effective to use in your localized WP environement. This solution is integrated into administration GUI of WordPress and can simply manage and translate the language files of WP-Members or any other component of your WP installation. The translation results can be controlled immediately using a second browser tab containing the target page.

So you dont need to have any idea about software development or PHP skills to translate WP-Members into your native language. You just need to understand English (at least by reading) and certainly the meaning of all specific terms and phrases of the plugin. Knowledge of your native language I take for granted…

So WP-Members fans out there, what are you waiting for? When you are satisfied with your results you can upload your *.mo and *.po files here in that forum… isnt that simple?

The last 2.7.0 italian language pot for WP-Members

    http://www.thesolver.it/public/WP-Members270_IT.zip

Is not a hard work, but manually take about 1 hr. Enjoy.
Thanks Chad for your brilliant work.
Ps.: Last week NOD32 antivirus warned me about the presence of a trojan connecting this blog.
Hope all is good now. My best wishes.

    • Chad says:

      Thanks for your translation efforts.

We were being attacked last week by some js exploits. The offending scripts were shut down as soon as we became aware.

  22. Hey,

as promised, i made the complete new dutch translation. how can i sent it to you?

    greetings,
    Willem-jan

  23. Frank says:

hi chad, pls publish the recent translation files above and replace the old ones.
    Thanks

  24. Willemjan says:

about 2 weeks ago i did sent you the new dutch translation, are you gonna use it? because it isn’t online yet.

    greetings,
    Willem-Jan

  25. Kitka says:

Hi, I’m a newbie and trying to install Spanish version of WP-members. This copy of WordPress is set to Spanish in the config file. So I have downloaded the files above, put all 3: (wp-members.pot, wp-members-es_ES.po, wp-members-es_ES.mo) in plugins/wp-members/lang – is that correct? Then followed your steps for forcing language change via the wp-members-install.php file and deactivating/reactivating. Most of the registration form is in Spanish but bits of it are still English (eg “Please indicate that you agree to the TOS” and the Clear Form and Submit buttons)

Have I done something wrong or missed a step?

    Thanks
    Kitka

    • Chad says:

You haven’t done anything wrong – in fact, you’ve got all the major steps. The Spanish version here is a few versions behind, so you probably need to add some translation strings. Some of these are ones that have been added to the file since that version. The most recent pot file is included with the 2.7.1 beta version.
