WP-Members bug fix release and Quick Start Guide

November 29, 2007 | Filed Under WP-Members | Leave a Comment

I am releasing a 2.0.1 version of the WP-Members plugin. This fixes the bugs that were in the previous 2.0 release. This version was tested on the new WordPress 2.1.3 and it works swimmingly!

I also created a “Quick Start Guide” to get new users up and running. This guide is available in PDF format and will walk a new user step-by-step through a basic setup of the plugin. It is geared to the complete novice and does not require any HTML or PHP knowledge whatsoever. It does assume that you are using a version of WP that had widgets enabled and that you are using a widget enabled theme. (I used WP 2.1.3 and the default Kubrick theme in the example.) My goal here is to make this easy for the complete novice but scalable for the more advanced user.

Although I don’t know when it will be completed, I am still working on a 2.1 release that includes the admin user management features that were in the 1.x version. Before that is complete, however, I am going to work on a series of videos to accompany the Quick Start Guide.

Go to the WP-Members page to download the 2.0.1 release of WP-Members and the Quick Start Guide.

(Also, there seemed to be some confusion on documentation between 1.x and 2.0 as I had it on the same page. I have permanently moved 1.x documentation to a new home.)

Lee Mercer - Presidential Candidate?

September 11, 2007 | Filed Under Editorial, Politics | 1 Comment

After looking at the Lee Mercer for President web site, I thought this guy cannot be serious, can he?

Here are some interesting tidbits:

His platform:

My platform for President of the United States Of America is Criminal Law. It is developed from my Method of Education. I was ordered to create and or invent by the United States Army that is now intact regulating the United States Government protecting it through Military Intelligence Computerization Management a new Disipline I invented and the Administration of Criminal Law Laws across the board.

Reasons for his candidacy:

10. To prove the United States of America has two Governments and they are Government #1 and Government #2 and I own Government # 1 a Private Ownership named Eye Spy Community-Military Intelligence (All Three) a Government of all the Intelligence agencies in The United States of America and in All International Countries in the World a Nationalization in Business and Commerce Intelligence National and International.

11. To prove the United States of America has two Presidents and I am one of them Jurisdiction in Eye Spy Community-Military Intelligence (All Three) Government # 1 in Business and Commerce Intelligence National and International.

49. To Prove the United States Government killed my sex life, my wife sex life, my daughter-in –laws sex life both may sons and other of my family members sex life with Espionage Experimentation and Espionage Exploitation sex killing.

His biography gives some insight. It begins by sounding normal, but then he drops the bomb:

On August 22, 1992, The State of Texas installed an intelligence hotwire in me at the United States Army Military Intelligence Academy Camp Bullis San Antonio, Texas.

The continuation of my biography background experience, graduate education and political experience is being held because of a Lack of authorities debriefing funds and interest for their liability to me.

But appearantly he is well educated:

I won scholar of the world in World Management at Rice University from the President Of Rice University development in engineering with him and the German Government. I won road scholar from the United States Navy/United States Marine Corp. at West Point. All of my records of authencation will be brought forward into court by former board and staff that I have named above according to law for my day in court.

I am going to assume that he made a ‘typo’ and meant “Rhoades” scholar, although it’s hard to give benefit of the doubt about the Navy/Marines at West Point.

Suddenly, Cindy Sheehan running for Nancy Pelosi’s seat does not seem as crazy.

Hotline to warn of immigration raids

August 9, 2007 | Filed Under Politics | 1 Comment

A coalition is forming in California that would notify illegal immigrants of upcoming raids, thereby protecting them from being “terrorized” by federal immigration officials.

This has to be one of the most absurd things yet in the immigration policy debate. Since when is actually enforcing the law an abuse of power? Here’s a thought - just obey the law in the first place and there won’t be a problem.

Here’s a quote from an “immigrant” (I suppose the term illegal was overlooked) complaining about his “rights” being “trampled.”

“We want to have a more organized effort to counter these attacks,” said Jaime Conteras, a 20-year-old Filipino immigrant who now lives in Santa Ana. “We cannot let people trample on our rights.”

Rights? What rights do you have to come to this country in a manner that violates the law? To take that statement seriously requires one to say that our system of laws do not matter. You cannot pick and choose.  If there is probable cause, a search may be conducted.  Anyone detained must be granted due process.  Outside of that, if you are actually here illegally, you don’t have much of a case.

Next I suspect that we will find some drug addict advocacy group form a coalition to tip off drug dealers of pending raids by the DEA. Or maybe a hotline by NAMBLA to protect peddlers of kiddie porn from abuse of power by law enforcement.

The immigration reform that we need is simply a commitment to enforce our existing laws. And the so-called “path to citizenship?” Last time I checked, we already had one. It’s called “naturalization” and you can read about it here: http://www.uscis.gov
