Free Real-Time Streaming Quotes

Posted on August 9, 2007 | Filed Under Trading

Looking for FREE real time market quotes? Look no further. This list contains links to real-time (not delayed) market data directly from the exchanges and markets. (Except for the CME quotes, these do NOT require registration, and none of these are brokerage sites.)

This post will be updated as additional sites are found. Bookmark it and check back for additional markets!

Commodity Futures and Options

CME [Login required, registration is free]:

CBOT [No registration or login required]:

US Futures Exchange (formerly EurexUS):

Stocks

NASDAQ

MSN claims to offer free snapshot quotes in real time. An MSN (or hotmail.com) login is required. I looked at this and it does appear to be in real time. You just have to enter the symbol to get the snapshot quote. According to this, you are allowed up to 1,500 real time snapshot quotes free each month.

Google is working on obtaining free real time quotes for their site.

(Additionally, if you have a brokerage account with certain houses, there are packages that will stream market data from their feeds. I will be working on adding that information to this post, and if there is enough info, break it out into it’s own post.)

I am currently in the process of adding tags to all legacy (pre-WP 2.3) posts. Not all posts have them yet, so this area may be empty

For the free Arca, the data is incomplete compare to the paid version from Nasdaq.

You should consider the importance of it when you are executing trades versus the market maker!

Thanks for the comment Alfred. You raise a very important point that “you get what you pay for.” Anyone who is trying to cut corners by using free quotes needs to consider whether it is wise for their particular trading style. For a short-term trader where every tick counts, not paying for a reliable quote feed is asking for trouble. For longer term trading, it is not as critical but still must be considered.
