The Paris Hilton Saga Redux

Posted on May 23, 2007 | Filed Under Editorial

When I started blogging, I never thought I would ever in a million years write one post about Paris Hilton, let alone two.  But this article, Paris Hilton: Please God, Save Me From Jail, brings up another point in my ongoing campaign for personal accountability.

It seems that Hilton was spotted in LA carrying a copy of “The Power of Now” and a copy of the Bible.  I have to say that the photos look extremely staged to me, which would make sense considering her entire attitude has been that she is undeserving of such terrible punishments as are being inflicted upon her.  (Never mind that the sentence is actually quite average for the crime - yes, Paris, you heard me, crime.  You committed a crime for which you are now receiving due process and punishment.  But I digress…)

So, let us assume that she is actually reading that Bible.  What might she glean from it?  Well if she is looking for love and support, she will find that.  But she would also find a great many stories that demonstrate accountability and judgment for one’s actions.

To start with, I suggest she read Judges where Paris would find that the Hebrew people were in a seemingly never ending cycle of sinning against God, being punished by God, then repentance and peace (or rest).  It would be important to note that there were not instances in that cycle where God spared punishment.

She might also note that King David, while often viewed as a superhero of faith, committed adultery and murder for which God punished him severely.  While he certainly sought God’s forgiveness, he also accepted the punishment instituted for his sins - the loss of his firstborn.

There are countless similar themes throughout the Bible.  I certainly hope that she can see that; it would do her some good.  Maybe Paris is ready to grow up and be a responsible member of society.  I am willing to wait and let her actions speak for her.

I am currently in the process of adding tags to all legacy (pre-WP 2.3) posts. Not all posts have them yet, so this area may be empty
