The ongoing saga of accountability: a Texas judge gets it right
As I wrote yesterday, the biggest problem we face in America today is accountability.Last summer, a case was filed against online social networking site MySpace.com by the parents of a girl that was sexually assaulted by a man she met on the site. [ full story ]
The judge in the lawsuit handed down a ruling that cleared MySpace.com of accountability. Taking it a step further, he hit the nail on the head:
“If anyone had a duty to protect Julie Doe,” [Judge] Sparks wrote of the unnamed alleged victim, “It was her parents, not MySpace.”

Interestingly, this was not a case of the girl walking down the street minding her own business. Rather, she lied about her age and then arranged a meeting with her assailant. A sad story, to be sure, but not one that couldn’t have been avoided by active and aware parents.
