A Fine Example
For quite some time, I have stated that the problem with this country goes way beyond ideological divisions, political correctness, or a host of other things. The problem is the complete lack of personal responsibility and accountability. Everything is or must be some one else’s fault.
Here is a perfect and shining example of what I am talking about. The statements made by the bloggers who left the Edwards campaign have blamed it on being the focus of ideological attacks on them.
“This was a decision I made, with the campaign’s reluctant support, because my remaining the focus of sustained ideological attacks was inevitably making me a liability to the campaign,” McEwan said Tuesday night.

To me, this is not about whether I agree of disagree with what they said. It has nothing to do with John Edwards (although I do feel that someone wishing to claim the highest office in the land might want to exercise better judgment in his hiring practices). No. This has everything to do with personal accountability.
If you lash out at a specific group of people, you might want to be prepared to be on the receiving end of their rebuttal. These two ladies were quick to dish out their criticism of Christians and Conservatives, but when members of those groups responded, they don’t seem to be to quick to admit that they brought this on themselves.
McEwan’s response that she remains “the focus of sustained ideological attacks” is ironic considering that it was her own ideological attacks that brought this about in the first place. Certainly, her leaving the campaign could be construed as accepting accountability, but it is the wording of her statement that sums up my point. She attacked a specific group and when they fought back, she chooses to paint the picture that it is somehow their fault, that their attack on her character is somehow unwarranted.
