Something to think about

In the debate over amnesty for the millions of undocumented (and illegal) aliens living in the United States, it might be time to stop and think about why that really is a bad thing.

Sure there is fodder there for debates on human rights, economics, taxes, the rule of law. The list could go on and on.

But here is the real issue that is not being pointed out enough is that less than 5 years ago, “undocumented” aliens were responsible for the worst terror attack on US soil.

In Michelle Malkin’s book Invasion, she recounts the tale of two fellows who in August 2001 pulled into a 7-Eleven parking lot in Falls Church, Va., in search of fake ID from the illegal-alien assistance network that hangs around there. Luis Martinez-Flores, who’d been living here illegally since 1994, took them along to the local DMV, supplied them with a fake address and falsely certified they lived there. The very next day, the two guys returned with two pals of their own, and used their own brand-new state ID on which the ink was not yet dry to obtain in turn brand-new state ID for their buddies. A couple of weeks later, all four of them used their Virginia ID to board American Airlines Flight 77 at Dulles Airport and plowed it into the Pentagon.

Still think they have a “right” to be here?‚  By allowing this debate to go on, the current elected government of this country is shirking in its duty.   By allowing illegals to remain undocumented, it is quite clear that they are not providing “for the the common defense.”

We can no longer afford to allow this to continue.   So what then is the solution?

First and foremost is to protect our borders.

Notice I did not say “close” our borders.   This is the land of the free and to many, the land of opportunity.   That is why they come (most of them, anyway).   And I say let them come.   However, they must come through proper channels.   That means only legal immigration is allowed.   Think it’s too big a job we can’t build a wall big enough?‚  Think again.   Israel has done it.   Saudi Arabia is doing it.   How about the 38th Parallel?‚  You don’t find many people getting across that in one piece.   I can deliver more examples, but there is no need to beat a dead horse.   So, it can be done.

Second, begin enforcing the rule of law on the current immigrant population.

This means proper documentation, proper immigration status, proper visas.   To show that I am not without compasion, I am not opposed to allowing a time period for current illegals to achieve a legal and documented status.   But this must be done in a fashion that allows us to know who is here, what their background is, and where to track them down.   We know that there are people that are currently among these “undocumented workers” that are here for no other reason than to do us harm.

To the current illegals: Stop protesting for your “rights.”‚  If you came here illegally, you broke the laws of the land.   If you want to be treated like a citizen, start acting like one.   As a citizen, if I break the law, I can expect to suffer the consequences.   For speeding, that might be a fine.   For stealing, it might mean jail time.   Those are the rules.   If you came here illegally yet you want your “rights” then expect to suffer the consequences of breaking the law.

And to our elected officials: You represent the citizens that elected you, not those that came here illegally and do not have the right (by our laws) to vote.   The electorate has sent you a message: protect our border.   How hard is that to understand?‚  I would ask the question, “Does someone have to die for you wake up to the consequences?” But that has already happened.
