The Treasonous Al Gore
I suppose it goes without saying the Al Gore does not represent this country anymore. Not since he was unable to carry his own home state in the 2000 presidental election have his words carried any offical capacity. Like it or not, we are a nation at war. And during wartime, there are certain actions that are treasonous.
What if, during WWII, Charles Curtis had gone to Asia and given a speech about how we were mistreating the Japanese-Americans. What if John C. Breckinridge had gone to Atlanta during the Civil War and decried his government for its treatment of Confederate prisoners of war. These things would not only have been unthinkable, they would have been considered treason. This would be considered “giving aid and comfort to the enemy”. Yet this is exactly what Al Gore did this weekend in his speech given at the Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudia Arabia.
Amoung Gore’s mort brash comments, the claim that, following 9/11, Arabs in the United States were “indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable.” Now, since Al Gore was not serving in any official government capacity during this time, I am wondering what qualifies him as an expert on (1) how the so-called “round-up” was handled, and (2) what the conditions of their confinement was? Regardless of what the conditions were, I am certain that they were far better than those offered in the Middle East.
“Unfortunately there have been terrible abuses and it’s wrong,” Gore said. “I do want you to know that it does not represent the desires or wishes or feelings of the majority of the citizens of my country.”
Majority? Excuse me Al, but what are you basing your data on? If a majority of the people in this country were displeased with how the current administration handled this so called “round up of innocents” after 9/11, John Kerry would be sitting in the Oval Office right now. We can all be thankful that Al Gore was not elected President of the United States since it is quite clear that he would have done little, if anything, to protect the US from additional domestic terrorist attacks following 9/11.
Again, this just shows how completely out of touch the extremists in the Democratic Party have become. You can’t go around bashing your own government and appeasing the enemy and expect that the voters are going to believe you will be tough on terrorism.
On a more postive note, Gore did call for more pressure on Iran from its Middle Eastern neighbors.
“Is it only for the West to say this is dangerous?” Gore asked. “We should have more people in this region saying this is dangerous.”
At least he recognizes the serious global consequences of a nuclear Iran. Unfortunately, that does not discount or forgive his other remarks.
