Walls Save Lives
Well, chalk the Miami Herald up on the side of those who don’t understand US Immigration policy. You can also appearantly chalk up quite a few based on the protests in Mexico City.
Their complaint? A wall on the US/Mexico border would cause more deaths. The article quotes:
“A migrant dies on the border everyday already,” said Ada Omana, a migrant activist who lives in New York City. “With this wall, we are going to see more corpses in the desert.”
Interstingly, no one seems to care to point out that those deaths are the direct result of attempts to enter this country ILLEGALLY!
There is nothing racist about establishing immigration policies and laws in accordance with our other laws. We have policies, laws, and standards in order to protect our citizens (a Constitutional requirement of government) and to protect those attempting entry to this country. While opponents love to sling around the word “racist” when discussing the proposed wall, not one of them will admit that this is a plan to stop people from breaking the law. And those laws, if followed, would stop people from dying.
Have you ever heard of anyone dying while attempting to enter the United States by legal immigration?‚ I didn’t think so. Sounds like a good success ratio to me. These protesters (and the Mexican Government, for that matter) would serve the welfare of their people much better by pointing out that single fact.
