How Washington Wastes Your Money

Posted on January 17, 2006 | Filed Under Politics

Congressional hearings and special prosecutors cost money… a lot of money. Just who do you think funds that bank account when they write the checks? You and me.

Now, don’t get me wrong. If something needs to be investigated, I think it should be. But the majority of these so-called inquiries are basically political witch hunts and lip service and a giant waste of our money.

That’s why I appreciate Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ statement on Larry King Live that we didn’t need a special prosecutor to look into the NSA wiretap fiasco. This was in response to a call for a special prosecutor earlier from Al Gore. Now the left may stand up and cheer Brother Al and shout for the heads of those responsible.

But sit back and think about the rationale for this a second. No matter what side you are on, a special prosecutor is a complete waste of time and, more importantly, money - your money. The White House isn’t hiding anything. They said they did it and that they’ll keep on doing it. The only thing left is for Congress (most likely the Senate Judiciary) to determine if it was illegal or not. End of story.
