What is the definition of a life sentence in Germany? Appearantly, 18 years.

Mohammad Ali Hamadi, a member of terrorist group Hezbollah, received a life sentence in Germany for hijacking a TWA plane to Beirut and murdering U.S. Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem, but was paroled after 18 years and freed last Thursday.

For the record, Germany refused to extradite Hamadi because he could have faced the death penalty. Yet, his crime was against a US citizen.
