A Voice Crying in the Wilderness
Just who is Sam Johnson?
He is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He survived as a POW after being shot down over Vietnam. A decorated war hero, Johnson was awarded two Silver Stars, two Legions of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, one Bronze Star with Valor, two Purple Hearts, four Air Medals, and three Outstanding Unit Awards. And he is a US Congressman representing the 3rd District of Texas.
During the current debate on the War in Iraq and all of the hubbub about what a great war hero and influential member of Congress John Murtha is, why have we not heard about Sam Johnson? Two reasons come to mind:
- He is a Republican
- He supports the War in Iraq
He is a voice crying in the wilderness.
The way the media has swooned over John Murtha continues to sicken me. If ever there was evidence of bias in the media, this is it. They love to give the side of the story they support - American failure in Iraq. They make it sound as if every war veteran in Congress wants a pullout. That is why they do not want you to hear from Sam Johnson.
Johnson understands what is at stake. It is very clear, in comparison, that Murtha either does not understand, or does not care. Murtha only cares about getting his name in the media to assist he election campaign and pander to his party.
Sam Johnson wrote a piece for Human Events Online entitled “Withdrawal is Not an Option“. I suggest you read it. He makes an important point that the cut-and-run crowd, the naysayers, the peaceniks, just don’t get.
I have to ask: What would Iraq be like if the United States pulled out–allowing dangerous people like the head of al Qaeda, Zarqawi, to run the country? What would that mean for the region? The world?
And what, praytell, do you think would happen next? Do you think al Qaeda would just lay down their arms and go about their business? No. It would embolden them like never before. They beat back the “Great Satan.” Now they would go for the jugular. We would see attacks on our home soil that would make 9/11 look like a picnic.
What part of al Qaeda do you want operating here in America?
Think of it this way. It is already dangerous for Americans to travel abroad, downright foolish to travel to certain countries. How would you like that uncertainty to grip you every day? How would you like to wonder everyday, “Gee, I wonder if terrorists will detonate a bomb in my city today?” The emboldening of the terrorists coupled with the leaky seive of our borders makes this a near certainty if we fail to preserve the new government in Iraq. If we leave now, that is what we can expect.
Murtha talks a big game. But when it came time to vote his conscience on roll call vote 608, he cut and ran from his own principles.
Johnson is the one people should be listening to.
