The NEW Flip-Flopper
Murtha is falling into the trap of becoming a political “flip-flopper” ala John Kerry’s “I voted for it before I voted against it.” Murtha continues to call for a troop pullout [more...], yet a quick look at the roll call vote 608 [BILL TITLE: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately] shows he voted against immediate pull out.
There seems to be much debate on what Murtha has said or done in the past. “Did he - or - Didn’t he” doesn’t really matter here (i.e. discussion of his support of the Somalia pull out). Nor do I care about his service record. All I care about right now is that this is a man who called for a pull out of troops. Bring them home, he says. So the House calls for a vote. Only 3 Representatives had the chutzpah to vote for it - all of them Democrats, but none of the Murtha. Scroll down the “nay” votes and you will find him. He didn’t even have the sense to vote “present” thereby abstaining. Yet, he continues to be out stumping for a pull out.
Does this guy deserve to be beat up by the GOP? Absolutely. His own party should probably drag him out back to the woodshed. His comments have forced Democrats to do what they really don’t want to do - put their money (or vote) where their mouth is!
