Temper Tantrums and Your Tax Dollars
How old is Harry Reid? If we had to judge solely on his actions, I would say 5. To be specific, he acts like some spoiled brat 5 year olds I know. Now, I have a 5 year old of my own, and I dare say that she is better behaved than Reid.
Maybe a trip to the woodshed would shape this guy up. I don’t know. But what I do know is that Bill Frist spoke volumes when he said, “The United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership. They have no cconvictions, they have no principles, they have no ideas.” Amen, Brother Frist. You preach the truth.
I’d like to put Harry Reid, Joe Wilson, and Teddy “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy in a play pen together and see what happens.
This whole nonsense is nothing more than a stunt to set up a sham investigation, smear the Bush administration, and waste millions of taxpayer dollars. You did know that these “investigations” are paid for by our tax dollars, didn’t you? Are you happy with the blank checks Reid wants to throw around?
Based on Reid’s warped logic, somehow Scooter Libby’s indictment indicates that “Bush lied, people died,” and he demands an investigation. But just what is the Libby indictment? He has been charged with obstruction and perjury. But let us peel back the layers of this onion for a moment.
First, Libby was indicted, not convicted. Unfortunately, inside the Beltway, you are guilty once indicted. Even if a trial proves your innocence. Or didn’t you know that? Libby’s career is over, whether or not he did anything wrong.
Second, his so called perjury is based on his recollection of accounts differing from those of some reporters. Tom Sowell had a great piece in today’s IBD. Unfortunately, it is not available on their web site, so I can’t link to it. But he likens this to a married couple returning from vacation only to have differing recollections of events when sharing the details of their vaction with friends. Perjury is pretty hard to prove. And it is pretty weak, considering that Libby wasn’t even charged with the crime that the grand jury was convened for in the first place!
But to hear the Democrats talk, you would think that this means the entire Bush administration is dirty from the top down. Somehow, Reid thinks this means Bush owes the American public an apology. Somehow MoveOn.org only shouts “Move On, Get Over It!” when you are on the Left. Somehow, the media is not only giving Joe Wilson a complete pass, but is actually lobbing him softballs.
And if you can’t smell the stench of media bias through all of this, I don’t know that you can be cured.
And is Plame’s so-called “outing” actually the fault of her husband? IBD again has a great editorial piece, this time available for your review online here.
So does anybody really care that Harry Reid is an opportunistic, spoiled brat? That he is basing his rants on the Libby indictment is foolish, even for Reid. Thomas Sowell sums it up in his column today”
To the liberal media, the accused is “innocent until proven guilty” - when the accused shares their political views. Otherwise the standard is “the appearance of impropriety.”
That appearently goes for Senate Minority Leaders as well.
So back to Reid & Co. and their complete incompetence in the U.S. Senate. Neal Boortz sums it up pretty well:
What possible useful outcome could be realized from another investigation? Not a thing we haven’t heard many times before. The 9/11 Commission already investigated this issue and found that intelligence information was NOT manipulated by the Bush Administration. So… when one study doesn’t develop the results you want - or demand - just shut down the Senate and demand another study! What this is really about is the Democrats running completely out of ideas. The war in Iraq is all they have. With gas prices headed downward across the country, the left has to demonize something….and Iraq is it.
But we’ve heard it all before. This was rehashed for a year during the presidential campaign, and they lost. The fact of the matter is most reasonable people believe Saddam Hussein should have been removed from power. Democrats, however, despite voting to give George Bush the power to wage the war, want Saddam back. They wrongly say he had no weapons of mass destruction.
So here we are in the year 2005, one year before the mid-term elections. A senior White House official has just been indicted and George Bush’s presidency is supposedly at a low point. And just what do Democrats do to capitalize? Shut down the Senate and demand yet another Iraq WMD probe. What a strategy!
With the sheer incompetence of their leadership, Democrats increasingly have no chance of retaining power. All they have to do is keep talking.
This complete waste is worse than any pork barrel spending. At least pork has a chance of getting money back into the economy. The money wasted on this mess is gone forever. And for what? To find out something we’ve already looked into? To grind someone’s political axe? To prove a point? I don’t care what it’s for… I’m ticked. And you should be, too. Take a look at what comes out of your income this year to fund this kind of crap. Write it down on a piece of paper and attach it to your voter registration card (you do have one, don’t you?). Then look at it when you are standing at the ballot box next November. Take a deep breath and think about what you are about to do. Then cast your vote.
