Understanding

I have devoured a couple of C.S. Lewis books this week - “The Screwtape Letters” and “The Great Divorce“. As I read them, I began to understand how little understanding I had of the true nature of spiritual things. And it was through this understanding of not understanding that I was finally able to understand.

Also, for material that was written over a half century ago, I found it quite relevent, even today. Reading these two books will give you insight into good & evil, right & wrong, and heaven & hell as you may not have considered. Small negative things that we consider insignificant feelings can fester in our souls and destroy all that is good, while even the gravest of sins can be forgiven and forgotten. If you haven’t read Lewis before, I suggest you do. They are quick reads and well worth the time.

I think I shall read “The Problem with Pain” and “Mere Christianity” next.

Interesting!! We had to read these at Wheaton. Perhaps we should read them again.
